Date Sold 2/16/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Clarence E. Mulford's Undercover Man, the 1942 Lesley Selander cowboy western ("Two Hopalongs ride in the night! One for murder! The other for revenge!"; "Based on Characters Created by Clarence E. Mulford"; in this unusual entry, Hoppy is a guest at a Mexican hacienda, and someone impersonates both Hoppy and the owner of the hacienda, and it is someone staying at the hacienda, who has access to both their clothes; but Hoppy solves the mystery!) starring William Boyd (as Hopalong Cassidy), Andy Clyde, Jay Kirby, Antonio Moreno, Nora Lane, Chris Pin Martin, and Bill George NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a REALLY fascinating movie poster! I had always known that Paramount Pictures released the very first Hopalong Cassidy movie in 1935, and that in 1942, William Boyd and producer Harry Sherman apparently had a falling out with Paramount, because they switched distributors to United Artists, and the remainder of the Hopalong Cassidy movies were released by United Artists. But this poster has something I don't recall ever seeing in a major studio release! The poster was entirely printed as a Paramount poster, with the Paramount logo in the bottom right and "A PARAMOUNT PICTURE" as well. But apparently, some time AFTER the poster was printed, Boyd switched to United Artists, and they printed a very large studio-issued corrective credits snipe, which not only covered the bottom credits area, but also the bottom of the artwork, and that changed the releasing studio to United Artists! The poster certainly fills in a fascinating gap in the history of this beloved series! Condition: good. The poster has a large snipe at bottom (see above) that slightly discolors the top of the poster (see our image). It has a few creases and tears with some small paper loss along portions of the folds at center and some edge defects.
