Also included is a magazine that has 66 pages (see below). (Learn More) Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, the classic 1948 H.C. Potter home remodeling architecture living-in-the-city-vs-living-in-the-country comedy ("The nuttiest birds live in this house!"; "Cary's burnin', he's afraid his dream house den will have a built-in wolf"; "Myrna's yearnin' for a dream house with all modern conveniences including two men"; "Melvyn's turnin', He's a 'good friend' in wolf's clothing."; "Looks like the Blandings will have no heating problem."; about a family building their own home and the disasters that befall them) starring Cary Grant (in the title role as "Mr. Blandings"), Myrna Loy ("Mrs. Blandings"), Melvyn Douglas ("and good [?] friend"), Reginald Denny, Sharyn Moffett, Connie Marshall, Louise Beavers, Ian Wolfe, and Will Wright. Perhaps RKO was afraid that this movie would not find an audience (just being about a couple building their own house), so they made posters that presented it like it was a romantic love triangle, and even referred to Melvyn Douglas as "a good friend in wolf's clothing", when actually, there was no triangle at all! They needn't have worried, because the movie was very clever and proved to be very successful! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this pressbook, and now that we have seen it, we know why! As with many David Selznick RKO movies of this time, he convinced RKO to make this incredibly elaborate pressbook for this movie, and surely very few, if any, survive, and maybe no other complete ones! It has a folder that says "IMPORTANT PRESS MATERIAL FROM HOLLYWOOD" on the outside, and then inside are two sections, and one is an issue of Close-Up ("Hollywood's own magazine"), which was published by Selznick himself (and since the issue is not numbered, we don't know if it was the only issue). It is made to look like an issue of Life or Look magazine, and it is filled with articles about the movie and also about home building in those post World War II years, and there are also some ads for other RKO movies. The other section off the pressbook contains "advertising, publicity, and tie ups", and it has the posters on interior pages, and lots else about the ad campaign for this movie (see our many images) Also note that all movie material from this extremely popular movie is extremely rare! For unknown reasons, the 1948 original release movie posters and lobby cards are almost never offered for sale, and are far more rare than any of the other late 1940s movies of the same time period! Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Note: We have 12 images of the pressbooks in this set, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 12 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 2. Condition: very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. The outer folder has some wear and a couple of tears, but the two inner sections are in really nice condition (see our many images). Learn More about condition grades
