(Learn More) Sorrell and Son, the 1927 Herbert Brenon (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) English father-son family relationship silent melodrama ("A great book now a greater picture"; based on the novel "by Warwick Deeping"; a supremely depressing story of a World War I hero who returns to find his wife is having an affair, and she runs off, leaving him with their young son, and the only job he can get is as a hotel porter; he raises his son well, and the son becomes a surgeon, and his father gets an incurable disease, and because he can't bear to watch his father suffer, the son performs a "mercy killing" on his father) starring H.B. Warner (in the title role; "As Sorrell... A failure in life but a success as a father"), Anna Q. Nilsson ("As Dora Sorrell"), Alice Joyce ("As Fanny Garland"), Nils Asther ("As Kit Sorrell"), Carmel Myers ("As Florence Palfrey"), Norman Trevor ("As Thomas Roland"), Louis Wolheim ("As Sergeant Buck"), Mickey McBan (in the title role; "As the boy"), and Mary Nolan ("As Molly Roland"). Note that the "mercy killing" aspect of this movie was very controversial when the movie first came out, and over 80 years later, the exact same movie plot would be just as controversial! Also note that seven years after this movie was made, it was re-made as a "talkie", with H.B. Warner again playing the lead role. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare United Artists 'mail-out' pressbook. The covers of the pressbook were taped together at the printers so that the front cover of the pressbook could be addressed and it would serve as a self-mailer! All United Artists pressbooks from this period were made in this way. Because they were actually mailed without protection, they are very scarce in better condition. Condition: very good. There are two pieces of tape on the front and back covers which were put there by the studio . Otherwise, the pressbook is in quite nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
