Date Sold 9/12/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage English Exhibitor Magazine (measures 11" x 17 1/4" [28 x 44 cm]; 220 pages) (Learn More) The Cinema, the English trade newspaper catering to the British film industry from 1912 until 1975. It was very similar to The Hollywood Reporter in the U.S., in that it was published daily for many years, but occasionally they would publish special issues, and some of those were really large, and were filled with ads for then current movies. Very few pre-World War II examples of this newspaper exist (likely because of English paper shortages during World War II, and also because they were treated like old newspapers), and even fewer examples of their special issues exist! Important Added Info: Note that included in this special issue of this exhibitor magazine is a full-page portrait of super young Alfred Hitchcock! Not only is he as young as we have ever seen him in a magazine, but there is also a wonderful stylized logo with his name in a circular format, which we have never seen anywhere else! Also in this issue is a great two-page ad for Hallelujah (but that has two cuts). It also has an ad for Fritz Lang's "Woman in the Moon" (titled "The Girl in the Moon" in England), and many other ads, only a few of which we have pictured. It has a massive 220 pages and is square-bound, and it is filled with ads and articles about then current movies being distributed in England, and there are some color ads as well (see our many images). Not only have we never auctioned this before, but we have never before auctioned any issues of this trade newspaper, because they really are THAT rare! Condition: fair to good. The magazine has staining on the cover and tears and paper loss around the edges, and someone re-attached the cover with small pieces of clear tape. The spine is missing and also page 87/88 is missing. The "Hallelujah" ad has two cuts in it, but there are no other cuts we could find. Obviously, one could wish to find this in much better condition, but that would take forever (at least!). And the great Alfred Hitchcock page is unharmed, as are many other cool ads (see our images).
