An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Printer's Test One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28" x 41" [71 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the classic 1977 Steven Spielberg (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) science fiction (sci-fi) alien UFO melodrama ("Close Encounter of the First Kind: Sighting of a UFO"; "Close Encounter of the Second Kind: Physical Evidence"; "Close Encounter of the Third Kind: Contact"; "We are not alone."; "Every 15 minutes, someone sees a UFO"; "Written and Directed by Steven Spielberg") starring Richard Dreyfuss, Teri Garr, Melinda Dillon (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Francois Truffaut (the famous French director, in an acting role; "as Lacombe"), Bob Balaban, and Cary Guffey (as the little boy). Note that Paul Schrader wrote the original screenplay for this movie, but Steven Spielberg made many changes to Schrader's script. Finally, Schrader asked that his name be taken off the screenplay, and since it had to have someone's name on it, Spielberg put his own name on the screenplay! A man in southern California inherited a group of uncut posters (all printer's tests, see below for more on printer's tests), all from 1977, from a man who worked at a printer at that time. Most of the posters were from very forgettable 1977 movies, but included in this great find was eighteen examples of the style A "Star Wars" poster (with the original "77/21-0" NSS number), and thirty three examples of the style C "Star Wars" poster! The posters were consigned to Bruce Hershenson, who sold 18 sets of both a style A and style C poster and 15 individual style C posters. All of the 51 posters sold quickly, and very few have been re-offered for sale in the past seven years. Now, one of the original purchasers of a set of these two posters (plus two of the other printer's tests that were found, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Damnation Alley) has re-consigned them to Bruce Hershenson, and they are being offered for sale, in four separate auctions. Note that this is a very rare uncut printer's test! Before a poster was printed in large quantities, the printer would print a limited number of posters as "test" posters. Commonly, they would leave the color chart on the left edge of the poster, which added an extra inch to the width of the poster (which explains why the poster measures 28" x 41"). These printer's tests would then be shown to the various people in a position to "OK" them, and once they were completely approved, the printer would print the full print run of the posters. Not only is a printer's test far more rare than a regular poster, but it is also 100% genuine, there is no fear of purchasing a reproduction! Condition: very good to fine. The poster is in quite nice condition! Note that this poster is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
