An Original 1963 Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More)

War Is Hell!, the 1961 (released in the U.S. in 1963; released in France in 1962 as "War Hero") Burt Topper Korean War military action thriller ("Iron-guts guys in action who kill for medals... Dames... Or just to stay alive!"; "There are some things that only the people that do them understand"; "The raw personal story of a ruthless G-I who reached down to the bottom of hell itself for glory and dames!"; "The iron-guts guys who kill for medals... dames.. or just to stay alive!") starring Tony Russel (billed as "Tony Russell"), Baynes Barron, Judy Dan, Wally Campo, and narrated by Audie Murphy (he is shown in "a Dramatic Forward"). Note that this movie was controversial when it was first made, because many people did not like its realistic approach to war, and felt it was "anti-American". Over two years after it had been made, it had still not been released, and the studio came up with the idea of having Audie Murphy (the most decorated soldier in World War II, and a "true American") film a prologue explaining that the movie was just the story of ONE soldier and ONE platoon, and adding that that allowed the movie to finally be released! An odd bit of trivia is that it was playing on the double-bill at the Texas Theater in Dallas, on the very day when Lee Harvey Oswald was apprehended after killing President Kennedy.
