An Undated (probably 1920s) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More)

Hell's Fury Gordon, the 1919 Leon de La Mothe silent cowboy western short ("Story by Frederic Chapin"; this was the third episode in a series of 12 western shorts produced by Canyon Pictures) starring Franklyn Farnum, Buck Jones, Lola Maxam, Bud Osborne, and Vester Pegg. Note that when Buck Jones first started making movies, he was billed as "Charles Gebhart" (which was his real name). In the middle 1910s, his billing changed to "Buck Gebhart", and it was not until early 1920 that he became "Buck Jones" (sometimes billed as either "Charles Jones" or "Charles 'Buck' Jones"). This is one of the movies he made when he was still "Buck Gebhart"!

Important Added Info: Note that we can't say for certain, but we believe this to be a re-release glass slide from the early 1920s (perhaps as early as late 1920). Why do we say that? Because Buck Jones was still "Buck Gebhart" when this movie was released, and he likely had a very minor role (in fact, the IMDb says he is "unconfirmed"!). We strongly suspect that after he became famous, Selig and Canyon Pictures re-released this movie from a year or two before, and gave him good billing right under the title as "Supported by Buck Jones". This is guesswork, but it sure makes sense. And sadly, there is probably no first release movie memorabilia from this early western to confirm what we say is true. Also note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). This slide is the kind that has two panes of glass that are taped together with black tape around all four edges (front and back), typical of many older glass slides. We have provided a high quality scan of the image, but we have not taken a photo of the slide, because there would really be very little to see!

Condition: fair to good. The blank front pane of the slide is missing, as is all of the black tape. But otherwise, the slide is in nice condition, and one could easily replace the blank pane and the missing tape.
