An Original Vintage Campaign Book (measures 18" x 25" [46 x 64 cm]; 11 pages) (Learn More)

MGM 1936-37, the "Institutional Campaign Book for Theaters Playing M-G-M Pictures 1936-1937". This is an 18" x 25" promotional item that resembles MGM pressbooks of this time. It has a color cover, and then inside are ten single-sided pages on newsprint, all of which are stapled together with three staples at the top. Each of the interior pages has illustrated stories about MGM movies intended for release during the coming year. They likely were intended to be used by theaters to be sent to local newspapers to be run as "news stories" along with the paid ads the theaters ran for their movies. This is the only such "institutional campaign book" we have auctioned, and we don't know if MGM made one for any other years. During this year, MGM did NOT make an oversized campaign book, but they did make a small spiral-bound book called "Leo's Candid Camera", which was created in two versions. If anyone knows more about any of this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Important Added Info: As noted above, this is the only example of this "institutional campaign book" we have ever auctioned, from this year or any other year. It is surely incredibly rare!

Condition: good to very good. The campaign book was folded once in each direction, which may be how it was distributed. The interior pages are printed on newsprint, and are all there, but fragile, typical of MGM pressbooks of this time. The cover is separating from the interior pages at the staples, and there is wear on the folds (see our images).
