MARX BROTHERS (personality) MARX BROTHERS (personality) fan photo OR search current auctions Auction History Result 6h0007 MARX BROTHERS signed 5x7 fan photo 1950s by Groucho & Chico, who signed for Harpo too! Date Sold 4/14/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Autographed 5" x 7" [13 x 18 cm] Fan Photo (Learn More) The Marx Brothers were five American brothers who formed a legendary comedy act, first on the stage with four brothers, then briefly with all five, but Gummo left the act before their first movie, The Cocoanuts in 1929. Zeppo would appear in their first few films, but then he left the act as well. Of course, the most famous of the brothers were Chico, Harpo, and Groucho. They initially worked at Paramount Pictures, and then shifted to MGM. In the late 1940s, they split up, and Groucho went on to a very long and successful solo career, including hosting the classic TV show "You Bet Your Life". Some of their best movies include: Duck Soup, A Night at the Opera, A Day at the Races, Go West, and Horse Feathers Important Added Info: Note that this fan photo has been personally autographed (signed) by TWO Marx Bros: Groucho Marx AND Chico Marx (it also has a Harpo Marx "signature"; see below)! We were contacted by Marx Brothers expert Steve Stoliar (secretary to Groucho for years, and ultimate Marx Brother expert) and he told us that he believes that Groucho and Chico signed this, but that Harpo did not, and that Chico likely put Harpo's name there (and they appear to have surely been written with the same pen). So this photo has autographs of Groucho and Chico, but not Harpo (likely because he was not present at the time of the signing). Our original consignor was a dealer who purchased this signed item from the estate of a South American collector who collected signed items and many other collectibles over several decades, and that collector had many extremely valuable items, both signed and unsigned. Our consignor did not have a certificate of authenticity, but because they came from the estate of this collector, we think it is extremely likely the signatures are authentic. Note that we auctioned this last year, and the person who purchased it from us has now reconsigned it. Condition: very good. Learn More about condition grades
