An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (measures 14" x 22") (Learn More) Bolero, the 1934 Wesley Ruggles romantic dancing musical ("His dancing partners were but stepping-stones to fame!"; "Based on an Original Story by Ruth Ridenour"; a wild story of a conceited male dancer who stops at nothing to become famous, firing a string of female partners along the way, but then he meets beautiful Lombard, who quits him, and he is devastated, but he opens his own nightclub, and convinces her to dance the Bolero with him, even though she has since married a British nobleman, but she doesn't know that he now has a heart condition, and doctors have told him that if he ever dances again, he will die, but he dances with her anyway, and makes it through the dance, but then dies in his dressing room!) starring George Raft, Carole Lombard, Sally Rand ("The Fan Dancer", who re-creates her famous fan dance in this movie!), William Frawley, Frances Drake, and Ray Milland. Note that it seems that Paramount wanted George Raft and Carole Lombard to be a dance team like Astaire and Rogers at RKO, and this picture WAS a big hit, and there was another dance movie with the same stars called "Rhumba", but there were no others, probably because both stars were too busy making movies of other types. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. The blank borders of the poster were creased and had tears and smudges, and there was new paper laid over all of the blank borders (but not the tiny writing at the bottom). This is a common practice with restorers where a card has tattered blank borders, and most collectors do not consider it a major defect, since only blank white paper was affected. The image area had some nail holes in the left and right edges of the image, one in the first "O" of "BOLERO", and some creases, smudges, and stains around the edges, but otherwise, the image area was in pretty good condition. The person who backed the card did quite nice restoration to the image area. You can see signs of the restoration from close up, but from any distance away, it is not noticeable, and the poster does not have that "dipped in paint" look, so typical of posters from restorers who try to make them look "perfect". I would think most collectors would be quite happy to display this great window card on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
