Date Sold 5/2/2010 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 3 Original 1956 (from the first release of this movie in the U.S.) Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Stills (Learn More) Shichinin No Samurai (released in the U.S. in 1956 as "The Magnificent Seven", and in other English-speaking countries as "The Seven Samurai"), the classic 1954 Akira Kurosawa Japanese hired-professionals-save-a-tiny-town action epic (this great movie was the basis for the equally classic "The Magnificent Seven", it won the New York Film Critics award and was nominated for two Oscars!) starring Toshiro Mifune, Takashi Shimura, Seiji Miyaguchi, Yoshio Inaba, and Minoru Chiaki. Note that this film was first released in the U.S. under the title "The Magnificent Seven". We're not sure when the U.S. title was changed to the now familiar "The Seven Samurai", but it was certainly before the 1960 "The Magnificent Seven" was released (we have found newspaper ads from 1957 that still use the original title).
