An Undated (probably 1920s) Re-Release (re-titled "Mademoiselle Charlot" for this French re-release) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel Movie Poster (measures 46 1/2" x 62"; known as a 'grande' poster in France) (Learn More) A Woman, the 1915 Charles Chaplin silent comedy short starring Charlie Chaplin (Charles Chaplin), Edna Purviance, Charles Inslee, Marta Golden, and Margie Reiger. Note that a French distributor (Himalaya Film Co.) in the late 1910s or early 1920s distributed a series of Charlie Chaplin shorts from the mid-1910s, and they created a separate French one-panel poster for each short, giving each its own French title. We believe that the French poster entitled "Madmoiselle Charlot" is from a French release of this 1915 Charlie Chaplin short, "A Woman". If anyone knows more about this poster or this series of French re-releases, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this French one-panel measures 46 1/2" x 62". Condition: good to very good. The poster had minor wear on the foldlines. It had darkened somewhat throughout, more so on the foldlines. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed many years ago, but at some point after it was backed, it was handled roughly. The poster and the linen were roughly creased across the middle, causing two short creases in the middle left of the poster and one long one running from the waist of the woman at left into the middle of Chaplin's jacket. There was also a much lighter crease in the linen across the actual top foldline of the poster. I do not know how easy or difficult it would be for a restorer to repair this damage, but one COULD display the poster just as it is. It is quite possible that it would require re-linenbacking the poster to correct this damage, and at that same time, the restorer could perhaps slightly bleach the poster, and perform some slight restoration where needed. Note that the linen does not lay completely flat, which has caused our photo to exaggerate the unevenness of the coloring around the edge of the poster (the slight rippling in the poster causes the background color to look much more uneven than it does in person).
