Appears in Vintage Hollywood Posters 8 CATALOG SOLD OUT The image at right appears in the auction catalog we published as shown above and was sold long ago and we do NOT have it available for purchase. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36") (Learn More) House of Frankenstein, the 1944 Erle C. Kenton Universal monster horror thriller ("All together...!"; "Frankenstein's Monster! The Wolf Man! Dracula! The Hunchback! The Mad Doctor!"; "Based on a Story by Curt Siodmak"; the sixth Universal Frankenstein movie, and this was the first "all-star" movie, with all of its best monsters brought together in a single movie!) starring Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney Jr. (as Lawrence Talbot, the Wolfman), John Carradine (as Dracula), J. Carroll Naish (as Daniel, the hunchback), Anne Gwynne, Peter Coe, Elena Verdugo, Lionel Atwill (Atwill must have had a terrible agent that he ended up behind Peter Coe, and Elena Verdugo in the billing!), Michael Mark, Frank Reicher, Charles Wagenheim, William Edmunds, Belle Mitchell, Sig Ruman, and Glenn Strange (as "Frankenstein's monster"). At least Atwill did better than poor Glenn Strange, who played the Frankenstein monster, and didn't even receive billing! Also, is it just me, or is it the height of insensitivity that a "hunchback" was treated as a monster on a par with Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Wolf Man? Also, why in the world did Glenn Strange not get billing on the posters? NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this insert (and four others that we are offering in separate eBay auctions) has been dry-mounted on to a heavy board backing. This was done over 25 years ago by a framer. Many collectors look down on dry-mounting posters, primarily because of the fear that the dry-mount material will harm the poster in some way, and some collectors do not like dry-mounting because it makes the poster harder to send, because it needs to be sent in a large flat package. These five inserts offer ample evidence that the fear of damage is either completely unfounded, or greatly overstated! The posters show no signs of having changed in appearance from when they were first dry-mounted decades ago. I don’t know if 20 or 50 years from now that will still be true, but I can't see any reason why it should not be true. Of course, if one wanted to, one could have the inserts removed from the backing board. It needs to be done by a professional restorer, but it is far easier to remove an insert from a backing board than a one-sheet, as the heavier paper stock of the insert means far less chance that the surface of the poster could be damaged during the removal process. I think a person would be silly to not bid on one of these five posters because they were dry-mounted, but please do not bid on them if you could not accept their being dry-mounted, or are not willing to pay to have them removed from the dry-mounting. Condition: very good. the poster was dry-mounted to a board ; there are pinholes in the corners; there is a crease in the right of the top of the poster approximately 1 1/2" from the top edge; there are small tears and creases around the edges of the poster; there are smudges in the left half of the bottom foldline and the tops of the letters of the word "FRANKENSTEIN"; there was tiny surface paper loss across the bottom foldline, and it appears that someone applied yellow and purple to the white areas so as to make them less noticeable. Other than the above, which are basically minor defects, the poster is in quite nice condition. I would think almost any collector would be quite happy to display it exactly as it is, although of course a professional restorer could remove it from the backing board, repair the minor defects, and the poster would look even better!
