An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Chapter #9 (The Door of Dread) One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) King of the Wild, the 1931 B. Reeves Eason & Richard Thorpe Africa jungle adventure horror serial ("A Mascot Serial"; "An all-talking serial in twelve stirring chapters"; written by Ford Beebe) starring Walter Miller, Nora Lane, Dorothy Christy, Tom Santschi, Boris Karloff, Victor Potel, Carroll Nye, and Arthur McLaglen (as Bimi the Ape Man). Note that this movie was made prior to "Frankenstein", which resulted in Boris Karloff being fifth billed, and he is pictured on very few posters. Had the movie been released a year later, no doubt he would have been top billed! Also, this serial didn't start production with "all-talking" in mind, and some of the actors did not have very good speaking voiced and not much dialog was written. Though no one is actually credited, a great deal of narration was added to the serial in Post Production. It is generally thought that Boris Karloff (who had lots of stage experience) did all the voice-over narration. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good to very good. The poster was stored on or next to corrugated cardboard that slightly discolors the back in a pattern (but it is not very noticeable or distracting on the front). There is a tear at upper center and there are a few inches of separation in the upper right and lower left edges of the horizontal folds. There are a few creases and tears of varying lengths (generally 1" or less but some are larger) along portions of some edges with some paper loss in the lower left blank corner. Many of the tears as described above have been repaired with pieces of clear tape from the back. There is a v-shaped area of paper loss with some tiny tears (backed with tape) at center right near the blank border (see our image). Fortunately most of the art is "all there" and after linenbacking with some restoration to the above-mentioned defects it would display well (but all of these things in mind and see our super-sized image before placing a bid.)
