Date Sold 5/3/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Undated (probably 1960s) Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked Italian Two-Panel (known in Italy as a "4 Fogli") Movie Poster (2p; measures 55" x 78" [140 x 198 cm]) (Learn More) H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds, the classic 1953 Byron Haskin science fiction (sci-fi) Martian extraterrestrial alien invasion action thriller ("From the ends of the universe... they are reaching for YOU!"; produced by George Pal; loosely based on the classic novel by H.G. Wells; about seemingly unstoppable aliens invading the Earth) starring Gene Barry, Ann Robinson, Les Tremayne, Robert Cornthwaite, Lewis Martin, and Ann Codee NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Franco Fiorenzi Important Added Info: Note that this poster is undated, but it would seem to surely date from either 1965 (when there was a major U.S. re-release), or shortly after, when it was re-released in other countries. There is a 1973 Italian re-release with similar art to this, but it is not as good and not as colorful. We have only auctioned this really cool poster once before! Note that it is difficult to accurately date Italian posters, and some unmarked re-release posters can be extremely difficult to distinguish from first releases, so please bear that in mind before you place a bid. We used our best information to date this poster, but we can't always guarantee that the Italian posters we sell are not from an unmarked re-release, but this will only prove to be true in a very tiny number of cases. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at some crossfolds, with slightly more paper loss in the crossfold that fell in the middle right of the image (to the left of where the searchlights cross). It also had some creases, tears, slight darkening, and tiny paper loss on many parts of some foldlines, and a long tear in the bottom left credits area that had tape on the back that had discolored, with some slight darkening in the outer edges of parts of the borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
