Date Sold 6/17/2012Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Trade-Ad (measures 9" x 12 1/2" [23 x 32 cm]; 2 pages) (Learn More) Andy Hardy's Double Life, the 1942 George B. Seitz Andy Hardy romantic family comedy ("Pack up your troubles! Time out for laughs!"; "Andy's last fling before college is a riot!"; "1943's New Laugh Hit!"; one of the series of "Hardy Family" movies about Andy Hardy, his judge father, and the rest of his family; note that, in the first entries of this series, the judge father and his wife were the center of the movies, and the children had secondary roles, but Mickey Rooney's character quickly became extremely popular, and became the focus of the series) starring Lewis Stone (as Judge Hardy), Mickey Rooney (in the title role as Andy Hardy), Cecilia Parker, Esther Williams (billed as "Introducing Esther Williams Gorgeous Swimming Champ"; she of course was the champion swimmer who made a long series of aquatic swimming movies), Robert 'Bobby' Blake, Fay Holden, Ann Rutherford, Sara Haden, and Susan Peters. Note that Esther Williams was one of those rare stars who became a giant star immediately! She had actually had two tiny bit roles prior to this movie, but MGM still thought it reasonable to bill her as "introducing", and they gave her a giant full-length sexy artwork image on the posters! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Jacques Kapralik Important Added Info: Note that from the 1920s on, studios would create elaborate trade ads, often in full color, and often using the finest artists of the day. They would run these ads in their studio yearbooks and exhibitor magazines, and they would also print those trade ads separately and mail them individually to theater owners, trying to get them to book that specific movie. Sometimes those books and magazines are separated and the ads, which now greatly resemble the individually printed trade ads, are sold individually. The trade ad offered here was removed from a yearbook or magazine. It can be framed and displayed (but many trade ads have different images on each side, so one must choose which side to display if it is framed!). Condition: very good.
