DeMille was a legendary director from the 1910s to the 1950s. What makes him so remarkable is that he made some of the very first great movies, including "The Squaw Man" in 1914, but he was one of the only great silent directors to have no trouble transitioning to sound, and he made great movies in the sound era, even into the 1950s! Some of his movies include: The Ten Commandments, The Greatest Show on Earth, and Samson and Delilah. Of course, he also had a memorable acting role in Billy Wilder's "Sunset Boulevard" in 1950 (he did a great job, but it was made easier because he was playing himself!). He passed away in 1959 at the age of 77. Important Added Info: Note that what is offered here are two amazing spiral-bound scrapbooks of Cecil B. DeMille 8x10 stills from some of his earliest movies. One scrapbook contains 13 8x10s from different movies from 1924 to 1926, plus 31 3x5 production photos taken during the building of the sets for 1923's The Ten Commandments. The other scrapbook contains 20 8x10s from DeMille movies from 1913 to 1915 (one of them is a portrait of the director together with a DeMille business card and a newspaper clipping about him from 1919. It seems incredibly likely that the scrapbooks were assembled either at the time of the movies contained within, or certainly no later than the 1930s, but that is purely a guess. What is not in doubt is that all of these stills are from the original release of these movies, and it is nearly impossible to find stills from any of these movies! The stills are contained in a scrapbook that has a plastic sleeve and the stills are "stuck" to the paper behind the plastic. We don't know if they were glued in, but they can't be easily removed. However, any talented restorer could surely separate the stills from the albums, but it is quite reasonable to think that the high bidder on these albums might well want to keep them exactly as they are (which will be their choice). Please read all of the above and look at our many pictures before bidding on these albums. We wish we could have pictured everything in both albums, but we did provide a large number of images. Note: We have 16 images of the scrapbook pages, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 16 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 6. Condition: very good. The stills are within album pages, as seen in our photos. As noted above, they can't be easily removed. But otherwise, the stills and the albums are in generally nice condition (see our many images). Learn More about condition grades
