Date Sold 12/17/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Laughing Sinners, the 1931 Harry Beaumont romantic love triangle melodrama (about a cabaret singer who is dumped by her boyfriend, and she joins the Salvation Army, where she falls for handsome young Salvation Army worker Clark Gable; one of the highlights of this movie is Crawford performing a "farmer dance", where she has a false nose and goatee!) starring Joan Crawford, Neil Hamilton, Clark Gable, Marjorie Rambeau, Guy Kibbee, Cliff Edwards, and George F. Marion. Note that the people who designed the advertising for this movie went with second billed Neil Hamilton over third billed newcomer Clark Gable. I guess they thought he didn't have much potential! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned five lobby cards from this movie, and only two examples of this great scene card, which sold for $352 in "good to very good" condition and $163 in "fair to good" condition! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The card had a slightly diagonal vertical area of paper loss approximately 1/4" wide in the upper right of the card, extending down through Crawford's hair and into the end of her eyebrow. There was similar paper loss below that area in the center of Crawford's chest, extending down through the "R" of "SINNERS". There were some stains in Crawford's cheek between those two areas of paper loss. There was some paper loss in the left of Rambeau's mouth, extending into her cheek next to it. There were some light stains around the edges that extended into the image in a few areas. Overall, the lobby card was in poor to fair condition prior to linenbacking. Given the card's substantial defects, the person who linenbacked it did a pretty nice job, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Also, the person who linenbacked the card left no excess linen, typical with linenbacked lobby cards. Learn More about condition grades
