An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) John Steinbeck's East of Eden, the classic 1955 Elia Kazan (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) California World War I (WWI) era romantic love triangle family relationship melodrama ("John Steinbeck's 'East of Eden' is a story of explosive passions and Elia Kazan has made it into a picture of staggering power!"; "Sometimes you can't tell who's good and who's bad!..."; "Elia Kazan's explosive production of John Steinbeck's 'East of Eden'"; "The new hit- The biggest hit- From the Academy Award Director of 'On the Waterfront,' Elia Kazan!"; "Of what a girl did - what a boy did - of ecstasy and revenge..."; "Warner Bros. present it in an intimate new use of CinemaScope and Warnercolor"; adapted from the classic novel by John Steinbeck) starring Julie Harris, James Dean (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; "In his very first picture - A very special star!"), Raymond Massey, Burl Ives, Richard Davalos, Jo Van Fleet (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Lois Smith, and Timothy Carey. Note that there is an unusual element to this movie, which is that Elia Kazan had Warner Bros. buy the rights to this classic novel, and then he essentially junked around 90% of it, focusing on a small section of the book. However, Steinbeck had no hard feelings about this, especially because Kazan persuaded him to take a percentage of the profits of the movie as partial payment, and that proved very lucrative to Steinbeck, and the two became very good friends and neighbors! Prior to paperbacking, the poster had tiny creases and scuffs on the foldlines, with some fine surface paper loss on the bottom foldline. It had darkened somewhat, except around the extreme outer edges, where they were covered by a mat. It had pinholes in the corners and a few creases and scuffs around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to paperbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting (and a talented restorer could touch them up without re-backing the poster).
