EISENHOWER 15x18 political campaign 1956 great color portrait by Fabian Bachrach! Date Sold 6/8/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Unfolded Political Campaign Poster (measures 14 1/2" x 18 1/4" [37 x 46 cm]) (Learn More) Dwight D. Eisenhower (nicknamed "Ike") was a U.S. Army officer and politician from the 1910s to the 1960s. He was a five-star general during World War II, served as Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe and became the first Supreme Commander of NATO. He was elected to the presidency of the United States from 1953 to 1961. As President, he ended the Korean War and presided over eight years of relative peace and economic growth, during which no inflation occurred and the debt kept to a minimum. He is also responsible for the Interstate Highway System opposed Joseph McCarthy, and also signed the Civil Rights Act of 1957. Eisenhower passed away in 1969 at the age of 78. Artist: Fabian Bachrach Important Added Info: The photo was taken by Louis Fabian Bachrach Jr., who solely put "Fabian Bachrach" in the lower right corner of the photo (Bachrach's grandfather had been a famous photographer who photographed Abraham Lincoln, and the family studio continued over 100 years, with Louis Fabian Bachrach Jr.'s father, Louis Fabian Bachrach Sr., continuing to photograph presidents and other famous politicians in the 1930s, and Louis Fabian Bachrach Jr. was the third generation to do the same!). Note that this is an unusual photograph, because it is printed on a linen-like material (it reads "A TRU-CHROME MASTERWORK BY HARPER HOUSE, N.Y.C." at bottom left). The linen gives it a very nice look. In the case of this particular photograph, the linen was glued to a paper backing. We don't know if that is how it was distributed, or if it was done after it was distributed. Note that because it is a photo that is printed onto an unusual linen material, we would prefer not to roll this item in a tube, and instead send it in a large flat package, which we will do unless the new owner insists on rolling it. Condition: good to very good. As noted above, the photo itself is on a linen-like material. It was glued to paper, and it is separating from the paper in the top 1-2". It could either be easily removed from the paper or re-glued at the top. However, bear this in mind before bidding on this unusual photo. Learn More about condition grades
