An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 41" x 81") (Learn More) Stalag Seventeen, the classic 1953 Billy Wilder (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) World War II (WWII) military prisoner-of-war (POW) comedy ("The star-spangled laugh-loaded salute to our P.W. heroes!"; "'Stalag 17'...The address - of a prisoner of war camp!"; "Based on the play by Donald Bevan and Edmund Trzcinski") starring William Holden (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as Sefton), Don Taylor (as Lt. Dunbar), Otto Preminger (as the German commandant Col. Von Scherbach), Robert Strauss (in his nominated for Best Supporting Actor Academy Award role as Stanislas Kasava), Harvey Lembeck, Richard Erdman, Peter Graves (as Price), Neville Brand, and Sig Ruman (as the German Sgt. Schulz). Can anyone tell me how or why actor Don Taylor was given second billing in this movie? He did not have a major part at all! If anyone knows, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good to very good. The poster had a 4" tear in the blue background area to the left of the top of the "1" of "17" in the title. There was a 6" crease or tear (it is difficult to tell which) that was in the blue background above the "ta" of "Stalag". There was paper loss in the top left crossfold (which fell in Holden's nose) and there were a few small areas of paper loss in the vertical foldline near that. There were creases and smudges in the blue background areas, and some small tears on the foldlines running through those areas. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, and displays well, but the restorer chose to paint over a large percentage of the solid blue background area, to "even it out", and this is somewhat noticeable.
