An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Swedish Movie Poster (measures 27 3/4" x 39 1/4" [70 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) Alan Ladd, the 1940s Swedish stock poster created by Paramount Pictures for use by Swedish theaters showing their 1940s Alan Ladd movies. Theaters would order this poster, which had a large blank area at the bottom. Sometimes the studio would overprint the stock poster with the title of a specific movie, and sometimes they were sent a series of large paper snipes with the titles of specific entries of the series, so the theater could paste in each snipe as needed, thus getting many posters for the price of one. Sometimes stock posters are found with blank snipe areas. Most collectors consider them more valuable with a printed snipe attached, or with an overprinted snipe area. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was tri-folded only. It had many smudges scattered around the edges and around the edges of the bottom blank area, including to the left and right of Ladd's cheeks (see our image). Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
