A Linenbacked French Travel Poster (measures 46 1/2" x 63" [118 x 160 cm]) (Learn More) Cachat's Majestic, the circa 1910s French travel poster encouraging people to visit the Cachat's Majestic resort hotel which was located in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France (near the junction of France, Switzerland and Italy). Note that this poster features Candido Aragonese de Faria artwork of people enjoying various activities at the hotel, and we have auctioned two versions, one showing people playing tennis by the resort in the summer, and the other showing people skiing and sledding by the resort in the winter. We are also currently auctioning a "winter" version of this poster in a separate auction. We are guessing that both posters are from the 1910s, and they would seem to surely be at least that old, but they could even be older. Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had some darkening and a slightly diagonal tear in the lower right of the image, running through one of the small men's legs into the trees below. There was also a tear in the background at the bottom above the second "A" of "CACHAT'S". Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. After the poster was backed, it was slightly roughly handled, and it acquired a crease in the bottom right blank corner. Learn More about condition grades
