A 1952 Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Ladies of the Chorus, the 1948 Phil Karlson romantic chorus girl musical ("The love secrets of the Ladies Of The Chorus"; "See the dollies from the follies turn the bluebloods into redbloods!"; "Screenplay by Harry Sauber and Joseph Carole"; "It's most revealing... what burlesque babes will do to get their man!") starring Adele Jergens, Marilyn Monroe (very young in this role!), Rand Brooks, Nana Bryant, Eddie Garr, Steven Geray, and The Bobby True Trio NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Poor Adele Jergens! Not only did Columbia Pictures re-release this movie four years after it was made to capitalize on Marilyn Monroe's huge popularity in 1952 (see below), but to add insult to injury, they made the re-release poster look much like the design of the original, except full-length Adele Jergens was replaced by full-length Marilyn Monroe (with her name huge above the title and with the tagline "The girl everybody's talking about!"). We have previously auctioned many lobby cards and stills from this re-release, but for unknown reasons, we have never auctioned any poster except for a paper banner, and this is the first 1952 re-release one-sheet we have auctioned! Also note that Marilyn Monroe had been pretty unknown when this movie was first released in 1948, and was barely promoted in any way on the original movie paper. In 1952, at the height of her popularity, this movie was re-released, giving her huge billing over the title! Also note that the one-sheet says "A COLUMBIA REPRINT" in the lower right corner. This was a terminology used by Columbia Pictures at this time for some re-releases, and it has caused some collectors to be confused! This one-sheet is an original from the 1952 re-release of this movie, and is NOT a "reprint"! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had paper loss at the crossfolds, with paper loss and small tears in the vertical fold between the top and bottom crossfolds and in the middle of the bottom horizontal fold, with a lesser amount of wear on the other folds. There were pinholes around the edges and some paper loss scattered in the left blank border. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
