An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded German Movie Poster (measures 37 1/4" x 55 3/4" [95 x 142 cm]) (Learn More) Traumulus (released in English-speaking countries as "The Dreamer"), the 1936 Carl Froelich German school teacher melodrama (about a well-liked teacher who is called "The Dreamer" by his students, because he does not impose any discipline, but when one of his best students gets caught up in a scandal and commits suicide, the teacher realizes he has made a major error in not taking action, and he becomes a stricter teacher; it is obvious that there are strong parallels between the actions of the teacher and the actions of the German people in the 1930s, watching Hitler rise to power and taking no action, and reviewers said that Jannings delivered one of his best performances in this movie) starring Emil Jannings (he won the first Academy Award, but his thick accent limited his ability to play in sound movies, and he returned to Germany, and made several movies for the Nazis; in the title role as Traumulus), Hilde Weissner, Harald Paulsen, Hildegard Barko, Paul W. Kruger, Hannes Stelzer, Hans-Joachim Schaufuss, Hans Richter, Rolf Muller, Alex Kraft Hohenlohe, Hilde von Stolz, Herbert Hubner, Ernst Waldow, Otto Stockel, Bruno Fritz, Hugo Froelich, Gaston Briese, Max Rosen, Walter Steinbeck, Walter Werner, Karl Etlinger, Hans Brausewetter, Harry Frank, Ernst Legal, and Else Ehser NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Wendt Important Added Info: Note that we have never auctioned a poster (nor seen any other movie paper) from this movie as "pre-War" movie posters from Germany are virtually nonexistent (it seems likely that most were destroyed during the huge paper shortages that occurred during World War II). Note also that this is a rare "country of origin" poster for this German movie! Condition: poor. The poster is in much lesser condition. There are several defects scattered along the edges and foldlines/crossfolds and there are several significant areas of foldline and crossfold separation (the poster is completely separated along several folds and it is currently in six pieces). The poster paper itself has become somewhat brittle with age, making the poster difficult to handle without creating further fold and edge damage. Please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this item prior to placing a bid and please do not bid unless you can accept the defects described above, or you are willing to pay to have them properly restored.
