An Original Vintage Exhibitor Magazine (measures 11 1/2" x 15 1/4" [29 x 39 cm]; 32 pages) (Learn More) Variety, a weekly American entertainment-trade magazine that started publication in 1905. The magazine has several editions such as "Daily Variety" and "Daily Variety Gotham". In recent years, it started Variety.com which is a website with news, reviews, box office results and content dating back to 1914. The last daily printed edition was put out on March 19, 2013. Important Added Info: Note that this issue of this magazine contains a full-page ad for Sergei Eisenstein's Alexander Nevsky with great Saul Bass art (it is not signed or credited, but it is his work). In 1987, AT&T arranged for two one-day showings of this classic movie (one in Los Angeles on November 3, 1987, and one in Cleveland on November 22, 1987), with a full symphony orchestra with each performance, and all the money raised from those performances was donated to the American Film Institute! AT&T hired Saul Bass to create this great ad, which was run in Variety (and perhaps other magazines, but we have never seen it anywhere else). We would highly doubt there were any printed posters for two one-day showings, and we have never heard of any. So the only way to get this great Saul Bass art appears to be by purchasing an example of a magazine with the ad, and this one is the only one we know of (and we highly doubt hardly anyone anywhere saved issues of Daily Variety). This may be the most difficult to obtain and the most rare of all Saul Bass art! We have pictured the front cover of the magazine, and the two-page spread that includes the Alexander Nevsky ad. These images should also greatly help you judge the overall condition of the magazine. Condition: good to very good. The ad has light scuffing across the upper part of the image (see our image).
