An Original Vintage Linenbacked World's Fair American Airlines Advertising Poster (measures 30 1/2" x 39 3/4" [77 x 101 cm]) (Learn More) American Airlines: New York World's Fair, the 1964 airplane airline aviation travel poster soliciting visitors to the 1964-65 New York World's Fair on American Airlines. There were many posters for this World's Fair, and most featured the Unisphere (sponsored by U.S. Steel), which was the most recognizable image from this World's Fair, and that some of the posters for this were created by noted movie poster artist Bob Peak, and others were created by Henry Benscathy. Note that the metal Unisphere, which was created by U.S. Steel for the World's Fair, still stands in Flushing, New York! Note that while the Fair took place in 1964 and 1965, this poster has a 1961 date, which could be the date that the poster was printed or simply the copyright date. "Linenbacking" is a process that is used to preserve movie posters (the best restorers de-acidify the poster during the restoration process), and to make them far easier to display (it is much easier and less expensive to frame a linenbacked poster). When linenbacking is done correctly, it adds to the value of the poster, and is NOT a defect! Note that the specific poster in this auction was well linenbacked, AND that the poster was in quite nice condition PRIOR to linenbacking! In general, know that we received many of the linenbacked posters we are currently selling already linenbacked, but we have examined every poster EXTREMELY carefully, and we did our best to describe what condition the poster was in PRIOR to restoration, the defects the poster had PRIOR to restoration (in the "Pre-Restoration Defects & Quality of Restoration" section), any unrestored defects, and, when it seemed worth noting, something about the quality of the restoration itself. Many other auction houses claim to match what we do in this area, but EVERY person who regularly buys movie posters from major auctions can tell you this is just not the case! We never intentionally overgrade a single item, we never "accidentally" miss defects, and we never enhance a single image! Condition: fine. The poster was never folded. It was in quite nice condition prior to linenbacking, and it was well backed, and looks great! Learn More about condition grades
