An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Where the Pavement Ends, the 1923 Rex Ingram silent Polynesian island romantic love triangle melodrama ("A METRO Super Picture"; "By John Russell"; about a minister on a Polynesian island where a white trader runs a saloon, and the trader is in love with the minister's daughter, but she loves a native chief, and her father doesn't want her with either man) starring Alice Terry, Ramon Novarro, Edward Connelly, Harry T. Morey, and John George (born Tufei Filthela, he was only 4'2", and he played "little people" in movies from 1916 to 1961). There is an oddity about the plot of this movie. In one summary, it says that the native chief saves the daughter from the white trader and then commits suicide. In another, it says that the native chief saves the daughter and then reveals himself to be a "white man" in disguise, and they go to England together! Perhaps the movie was filmed with two completely different endings, but because this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist, we can't view the film to find out more about it. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a scene lobby card, five stills, and a glass slide from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this title card! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Note also that this is one of several silent lobby cards that we were consigned by a very long time collector. Almost all of the cards were in surprisingly nice condition, but not surprisingly, many of them had smudges or stains in the blank borders, with a few pinholes or small tears. The collector approached a restorer, and asked that all the cards have touch up performed on the fronts of the cards in the borders (as needed), but that none of them be backed in any way. You can tell that the cards have had some border restoration (some of it is more "felt" than seen), but they will display really well on the new owner's walls (or in albums). And many of these cards are from EXTREMELY rare titles! What IS gelbacking? Learn More Condition: very good. The card has had some border restoration on the front only, as described above.
