eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 6h0131 ILLICIT 8 LCs 1931 sexy Barbara Stanwyck, Ricardo Cortez, pre-Code, ultra rare complete set! Date Sold 4/14/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 8 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Illicit, the 1931 Archie Mayo pre-Code romantic living-in-sin melodrama (as relevant today as it was 78 years ago, about a couple who refuses to marry because they are afraid that marriage will ruin their relationship, but they give in to social pressure and do marry, and their relationship IS ruined, and they decide to separate and go back to how they were!) starring Barbara Stanwyck (in her fourth credited movie role!), Charles Butterworth, James Rennie, Ricardo Cortez, Joan Blondell (in her fifth movie role!), and Natalie Moorhead. Note that you may not have heard of male lead James Rennie, but he was a major silent star who also appeared on Broadway, but surprisingly, his career went downhill after the advent of sound, and he was quickly reduced to character roles. He was also married to Dorothy Gish for 15 years! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper items from this movie are incredibly rare (perhaps the most rare of Barbara Stanwyck's pre-Code movies). We have only previously auctioned some stills and two glass slides from this movie (and NO other movie paper, and not even one lobby card ever) until we received this complete set of eight lobby cards! Condition: good to very good. One of the cards, the one with Stanwyck standing with four people, has surface paper loss and small brown stains around the edges (likely this was the card that was on top when the set was together). The title card has faint stains in the top border and in some of the letters of the title, and in the man's face at upper right. All the cards share an odd defect. They all have faint rippling across the center over a 2" wide area that extends further in the right of each image. Note that this card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Certainly, these incredibly rare cards are excellent candidates for restoration. A talented restorer can "press and flatten" each of the cards, which should remove all of the creasing in each. They could also then do touch up to the two cards described above that have the stains. Please look closely at our super-sized images of all the cards to get an exact sense of each card's condition. Learn More about condition grades
