An Original Vintage Linenbacked Magic Show Poster (measures 28" x 42" [71 x 107 cm]) (Learn More)

Alexander: The Man Who Knows, the circa 1920s magic show poster used to promote Alexander the Magician. Alexander was a famous magician of the 1910s and 1920s, and he had a fascinating, if seedy, private life, having married 11 times, and being a professional con man as a sideline to his magic business! Note that this poster is undated, but it is absolutely an original vintage poster. There is no small writing at the bottom or on the back, but it appears to date from the late 1910s or early 1920s. Also, note that this image has been sold as a reproduction countless times in countless sizes, but this is absolutely one of the original posters from which the reproductions were taken! If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was never folded. It was mounted onto a thin linen backing with no excess, and no restoration was performed. It had some creases and scuffs around the edges, with pinholes in the corners and creases in the top center, with tiny surface paper loss in the center of the top red background area. At some point after it was backed, it acquired a diagonal crease in the bottom left corner. But the poster is in basically nice condition, and it would certainly display wonderfully just as it is, or it would be very easy for any restorer to remove it from the thin linen and re-back it, performing the slightest of touch up to the minor border defects.
