Original Vintage Lobby Card (Measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Bulldog Drummond, the 1923 Oscar Apfel English silent detective crime mystery thriller ("Adapted from the original story by 'Sapper'") starring Evelyn Greeley, Carlyle Blackwell Sr. (in the title role as Bulldog Drummond), Dorothy Fane, Warwick Ward, and Horace de Vere. Note that "Bulldog Drummond" was a fictional English detective who was created in 1920 in a magazine story by H.C. McNeile, who wrote under the pen name of "Sapper". He appeared in ten novels, short stories, and even stage plays. When McNeile passed away in 1937, his friend, Gerard Fairlie, wrote more stories between 1938 and 1954, and after that, other authors created even more stories. Drummond was a World War I veteran who is bored and becomes an amateur detective, and he marries his first client, who becomes his assistant. The first movie based on this character was in 1923, with Carlyle Blackwell in the lead role. There was one more silent with Jack Buchanan in the lead, and then Ronald Colman starred in the first sound version in 1929. There were 13 movies in the 1930s, many with John Howard in the lead role. The character was revived in 1947, and 5 movies were made between 1947 and 1951, with Ron Randell, Tom Conway, and Walter Pidgeon playing the leads. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: NOTE: In this case, the #2 in the title of the auction is not the number of the lobby card (whenever we know the number of a lobby card we list it for those of you who know which scenes you are looking for). In this case, the cards from this particular set were un-numbered, but because we are selling more than one card from this set this week as separate eBay auctions, we needed to differentiate the auctions, and we do so by marking them "#2, #3, etc. (Note that we do not use #1, because this is commonly used to signify the title card). Condition: very good. There is a piece missing from the bottom right blank corner and the top left blank corner. There is a tiny area of paper loss 1 1/2" to the left of the bottom right corner. There are tiny areas of paper loss in the bottom 2" edge of the left Learn More about condition grades
