A Linenbacked French Advertising Poster (measures 34" x 48" [86 x 122 cm]) (Learn More)

Dette de Haine (literally translates to "Debt of Hatred"), the 1891 French advertising poster promoting the purchase of the French periodical Le Radical, which featured a portion of the book Dette de Haine by Georges Ohnet. Ohnet was a French novelist from the 1870s to 1918, and while often panned by contemporary critics, his works were very popular and adapted into several early films. Note that this poster features wild Lucien Lefevre artwork of a woman with a knife approaching a man attacking another woman.
Artist: Lucien Lefevre
Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare pre-World War II French poster! Virtually no French posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II. Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters!

Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this French poster. That poster has now been reconsigned to us, so it is still the only example we have ever auctioned!
