An Original Vintage Theatrical English Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 3 1/4" [8 x 8 cm]) (Learn More) Die Strasse (released in English-speaking countries as "The Street"), the 1923 Karl Grune German silent expressionism melodrama ("A human drama of night life"; about a street in a seedy area in a big city; there are two plots overlapping; in one, a middle class man leaves his wife and comfortable home to find excitement on the street, and he gets involved with a prostitute and ends up in prison, and in the other, a blind old man is led through the street by his grandson; the movie is relentlessly depressing, creating a nightmarish world without the use of fantasy or special effects) starring Anton Edthofer, Aud Egede-Nissen, Leonhard Haskel, Lucie Hoflich, Eugen Klopfer, and Max Schreck (best remembered for starring in Nosferatu). Note that this was the first of many "street" movies (another was Joyless Street, which starred a very young Greta Garbo). This movie was directed by Karl Grune, who was an influential impressionist director, and the movie has brilliant cinematography, and all of the scenes were filmed on studio sets, allowing them to make the street the movie is set in truly nightmarish. More importantly, the movie was co-written by Carl Mayer, who wrote The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Sunrise, The Last Laugh, and many other very important movies. This movie had a major influence on lots of other movies, and it is clear that The Blue Angel and Sunrise borrow portions of the plot. Movie paper of any kind from this early important movie is beyond rare! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that any movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned anything from this movie until we received this glass slide! Note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). This slide is the kind that has two panes of glass that are taped together with black tape around all four edges (front and back), typical of many older glass slides. We have provided a high quality scan of the image, but we have not taken a photo of the slide, because there would really be very little to see! Condition: very good to fine.
