An Original Vintage Tri-Folded Billboard Advertising Poster (measures approximately 9' x 20') (Learn More) Buy Christmas Seals Help Stamp Out TB, the 1949 poster promoting the purchase of Christmas Seals offered by the National Tuberculosis Association during Christmas, and featuring art of a hand ringing a bell. Note that Christmas Seals were created at the start of the twentieth century, when the tuberculosis epidemic began. The advent and widespread use of antibiotics helped beat the tuberculosis epidemic in the U.S., although it is still a major problem in developing countries. Christmas Seals are still sold today, but now the proceeds go fight lung cancer and asthma! Note that unlike Girl Scout cookies, Christmas Seals didn't really "buy" you anything you could use. You were given colorful stamps that had no value, and the idea was to add them to your letters next to the postage stamps, to encourage other people to buy them as well. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this billboard poster was printed in 12 sections designed to overlap. Also note this poster was folded in a way that makes it resemble a tri-folded six-sheet (only much larger, of course, as there are more sections). But the length and width of the folded poster is just about the same as that of a folded six-sheet or three-sheet. This means that this poster needs to be sent in an oversized flat package, which will measure roughly 16" x 38", and approximately 2" high, and it will cost more to send than a regular sized package. Condition: fair to good. There is paper loss in the top left of the poster and tiny paper loss in the left of the top border, but fortunately, both areas are in solid colored sections. There are some stains scattered throughout and wear in the folds and borders. Please look at our super-sized image to get a sense of the exact condition of this poster, and do not bid on it thinking it is in better condition than it is. Still, it is surely an incredibly rare poster, and perhaps the only surviving example. One would prefer to find a much better condition one, but that might not be an option!
