An Original Undated (probably early 1960s, possibly from the continuous first release of this movie) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Italian One-Panel (known in Italy as a "2 Fogli") Movie Poster (1p; measures 39" x 55" [99 x 140 cm]) (Learn More) La Dolce Vita (sometimes referred to as "Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita"; literally translates to "The Sweet Life"), the classic 1960 (released in the U.S. in 1961) Federico Fellini (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) French/Italian romantic melodrama ("Uncut uncensored now for all to see... the nights, the drunken revels, the sin and the sinners, the perverted decadence of the jet set rich who live what they call 'the sweet life'"; "The most talked about - the most shocked about film of our years"; about a successful Italian movie critic who is dissatisfied with the emptiness of his life, even though he is surrounded by rich and famous people and has a beautiful girlfriend, and he yearns to understand why) starring Marcello Mastroianni, Anita Ekberg, Anouk Aimee, Yvonne Furneaux, Magali Noel, Lex Barker, Jacques Sernas, Alain Cuny, Annibale Ninchi, Walter Santesso, Nadia Gray, and Franca Pasut. Note that Astor Pictures, which had been known for mostly re-releasing classic U.S. movies in the 1940s and 1950s, acquired the rights for the first American release of this classic Italian movie, which they released on April 19, 1961. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Giorgio Olivetti Important Added Info: Note that we can't say for certain that this poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this partially Italian movie, is from the very first release of this movie in Italy. Why? Because it immediately proved extremely popular, and additional posters were made, and it seems that it stayed in first release for well over a year. There are posters that are dated 1959, and posters that are dated 1960, and also undated posters like this one. This poster looks the same as the dated posters, but it has a different printer. We think it is from after 1960, possibly from right after, but also possibly from a few years after (perhaps 1964). Therefore, do not bid on this poster unless you can accept the uncertainty as to when it is from. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had small paper loss at the crossfold that fell in the middle right of the "V" of "VITA", and it had pretty minor wear on the other folds. It had tiny pairs of staple holes around the edges, and someone scattered staple holes in the rest of the poster (no doubt to hold it to a wall), and that included staples in the two stars' mouths at top center and in Mastroianni's eye. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
