An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Monacan Movie Poster (23x32; measures 47 3/4" x 63" [121 x 160 cm]) (Learn More)

Merlusse, the 1935 (released in the U.S. in 1938) Marcel Pagnol French teacher boarding school comedy melodrama (about a lonely disliked teacher in an all-boys boarding school at Christmas time; he has nowhere to go over Christmas, so he stays at the school, and there are boys there who also have no family, and even though they have never been nice to him, he gives each of them a surprise gift on Christmas morning!) starring Henri Poupon (in the title role as Blanchard dit Merlusse), Andre Pollack, Annie Toinon, Thommeray, Jean Castan, and Le Petit Jacques. Note that this movie, written and directed by Marcel Pagnol, is super sentimental, just like all his other movies, but it is far less well known than most of his movies!

Artist: Albert Dubout
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Monacan poster! Not only that, but the only other movie paper items we have auctioned from this movie were four U.S. stills, and NO other movie paper of any kind!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had darkening on the folds and some small paper loss at some crossfolds and some small tears and tiny paper loss on parts of some folds. There were some faint brown stains scattered in parts of the poster. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
