An Autographed Letter (measures 6 1/2" x 8 1/2" [17 x 22 cm]) AND An Autographed Postcard (measures 3 1/2" x 6") (Learn More) James Cagney was a legendary actor from the 1930s to the 1980s. He was a huge success in crime movies in the early 1930s (almost always playing a gangster), and that unfortunately typecast him in those roles, but he continually fought against it, and he made several wonderful non-gangster movies as well. Some of his movies include: The Public Enemy, Yankee Doodle Dandy (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), White Heat, Ragtime, Angels With Dirty Faces (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), The Roaring Twenties, One, Two, Three, Love Me Or Leave Me (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film) and scores of others! He retired from show business completely in 1961, but he was coaxed out of retirement to appear in Milos Formal's Ragtime in 1981. He passed away in 1986 at the age of 86. And now you can see headshots of James Cagney in our gallery, Through The Years: James Cagney (from 1930 to 1984)! Important Added Info: Note that BOTH of these items have been personally autographed (signed) by James Cagney! One is a handwritten 2-page letter (one sheet, both sides), plus the other mailing envelope that was sent by James Cagney to very longtime friend Joan Blondell on April 29, 1969, from his home in upstate New York. The letter has great content, which you can read in our images, and it was entirely written by Cagney and signed "Jim". The other is a postcard sent by Cagney to Blondell on June 26, 1974, and it has a handwritten inscription that is also signed "Jim". Our consignor purchased both items from a Profiles in History auction, and the original item tag from that auction will be sent to the buyer along with the two items (but it is not pictured). Condition: very good. The letter, envelope, and postcard are all in pretty nice condition (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
