An Original Vintage Linenbacked French [War] Poster (measures 32" x 46 3/4" [81 x 119 cm]) (Learn More) It's a Long Way to Rome, the 1944 French World War II (WWII) poster that was produced by the Nazi German-occupying forces to mock the slow pace of the Allied invasion of Italy, and to dash the hopes of French citizens that were waiting to be liberated (and the British and American citizens who were very much hoping that would happen). The poster's title is in English, but at the bottom, the poster states (in French) that the invasion was moving slower than a snail, and features art of a snail with United States and British flags, advancing northward through Italy. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. It had slight darkening around the edges. It was mounted to linen for preservation purposes. Overall, the poster was in very nice condition prior to linenbacking.
