Somerset Maugham") starring Gloria Swanson (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Sadie Thompson), Lionel Barrymore, Blanche Frederici, Charles Lane, Florence Midgley, and Raoul Walsh (the great director in an acting role, as Swanson's boyfriend!). Note that this movie was remade as "Rain" in 1932 with Joan Crawford and Walter Huston in the lead roles, and again in 1953 as "Miss Sadie Thompson" starring Rita Hayworth and Jose Ferrer NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. We have only previously auctioned a one-sheet (28 years ago for $5,280!) from this movie (and NO other posters, only lobby cards and stills) until we received this half-sheet, which has three great images of Swanson! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had some small tears, creases, and smudges in the blank borders, with tiny paper loss in the center of the top blank border and tiny paper loss in the top left corner, with a few small pinholes in the blank borders. The image area was in nice condition, and the defects are in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
