eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 8x001 WHITE CHRISTMAS linen 30x40 '54 Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, different image! Date Sold 12/8/2009Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Thirty by Forty Movie Poster (measures 30" x 40") (Learn More) Irving Berlin's White Christmas, the classic 1954 Michael Curtiz post-World War II sisters holiday singing-and-dancing romantic musical (with classic "Lyrics and music by Irving Berlin"; "The most fabulous music-and-mirth show in motion picture history!"; "Joyous entertainment for every season, any year!!!!") starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, Vera-Ellen, and Dean Jagger. Note that this was the first motion picture to be filmed in VistaVision! Also note that the title song "White Christmas" was first introduced in 1942 in the Fred Astaire/Bing Crosby movie "Holiday Inn", and it proved to be so popular that this movie was made, utilizing part of the plot of that earlier film, and reusing this song, which was now over a decade old, but it proved to be an even greater hit! Important Added Info: Note that this 30x40 poster has a completely different (and FAR superior) image to that of the one-sheet for this classic holiday movie. I have never seen or heard of another example of this poster before. Condition: very good. The poster was never folded, but there was a long, slightly irregular tear that ran from the middle of the right border across the upper legs of the two women and ending in the waist of Danny Kaye. There were many creases and smudges down the left 3" of the poster and an area of paper loss in the lower left border (very fortunately, this area is solely in the blank white and blank yellow background, and does not extend into the inset image it is next to). There is a far lesser number of creases and tears down the right side of the poster, primarily in the blank white border and the edge of the orange and yellow borders. There were some creases and crinkle marks in the central image, but none in the stars' faces. There were smudges in the yellow background areas, more so along the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. I believe the restorer made a wonderful decision in NOT over-restoring the poster, for if it were made to "look perfect", it would have a "painted over" look to it that I personally do not like. This way, you can see the defects described above (although the linenbacking greatly minimized the creases within the central image area), but the poster still overall displays quite well. From any distance away, you see the wonderful image, and are not really distracted by the mostly border defects. I can't imagine a collector who would not enjoy having this great poster displayed on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
