An Original Vintage Autographed Deluxe 7 1/2" x 9 1/4" Still (Learn More) Basil Rathbone was a popular English stage and screen actor from the 1920s to the 1960s. He is best remembered for playing Sherlock Holmes in the popular series beginning in 1939. Some of his other movies include: The Adventures of Robin Hood, A Tale of Two Cities, The Court Jester (in which he played a comic version of the role he had played many years earlier in Robin Hood), Captain Blood, Son of Frankenstein (in the title role), The Mark of Zorro, The Dawn Patrol, Romeo & Juliet (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film) and If I Were King (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film) to name a few! He passed away in 1967 at the age of 75. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this still is on a deluxe heavyweight paper stock (it is possible it was originally an 8" x 10" that was trimmed on its blank borders, but if so, it was incredibly neatly trimmed, and only blank white paper could have been affected). It appears to surely be vintage to the 1940s, but we do not know the year. The still has been signed as follows "To Miss Helen Styde, Sincerely, Basil Rathbone". We have no way of determining whether the autograph was obtained in the 1940s or later. We have no way of verifying 100% that this is a genuine autograph, but it was purchased by our consignor over 30 years ago, and we (and our consignor) believe it to definitely be authentic! Condition: very good to fine. The still was once glued to some sort of backing, and there is paper residue in the top 2" of the back of the still, but it does not affect the front of the still at all, and otherwise, the still is in excellent condition!
