She is best remembered for her role as Gloria Bunker-Stivic in TV's "All in the Family" (which she reprised in Archie Bunker's Place and her own short-lived spin-off, "Gloria"), and she had a memorable recurring small role in TV's "The Gilmore Girls". She was the longtime spokesperson for the Christian Children's Fund and the Save the Ethiopian Children Campaign. Some of her movies include: Five Easy Pieces, The Getaway, and The Others.
