An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Style B One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Robert Louis Stevenson's Kidnapped, the 1938 Alfred L. Werker pirate swashbuckling adventure thriller (based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck; set in the late 18th century, about a young Scottish heir who is kidnapped by his uncle and sent to sea, hopefully to never be seen again, but he returns with the help of a sailor he meets on the ship) starring Warner Baxter, Freddie Bartholomew, Arleen Whelan, C. Aubrey Smith, Reginald Owen, John Carradine, Nigel Bruce, Miles Mander, Ralph Forbes, H.B. Warner, Arthur Hohl, E.E. Clive, Halliwell Hobbes, and Montagu Love. Note that the posters for this movie prominently credit all top fourteen actors in the cast, which is certainly unusual for anything other than a movie with an all-star cast! Also note that this was Arleen Whelan's first real role, after a small uncredited part. In the publicity for the movie, they said that she is a "titian-haired Cinderella girl who rose almost overnight from a manicurist in a Hollywood beauty shop to a leading lady for the movies".

Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thin paper backing, it can be sent rolled (however, it will be rolled with the image outward, because paperbacked posters should always be rolled that way, while linen posters are always rolled with the image inward), and it will likely need to be sent in a 6" tube, because rolling it more tightly might damage the poster.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds, and tiny creases and a few tiny tears in the top and bottom quarters of the vertical foldline, and some creases and scuffs on parts of the other foldlines. It had an extra horizontal fold 1" above the regular top horizontal fold. It had some tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss in the borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was paperbacked well, but it was likely rolled in the wrong direction, which has caused the horizontal folds to "return" (they will not show if the poster is framed, and of course, it can be placed under weight, which would minimize those returned folds).
