An Undated (probably 1940s) Re-release Vintage Theatrical Folded Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Castle on the Hudson, the 1940 Anatole Litvak New York prison romantic crime thriller ("You'll see a new kind of love... When a guy who can't get away with murder meets a girls who does!"; "Every scene crackles with Garfield excitement!"; loosely based on the book by Lewis E. Lawes, who was the real-life warden of Sing Sing Prison; it had earlier been made in 1932 as "20,000 Years in Sing Sing", and that was the working title for this movie until it was changed at the last minute) starring John Garfield, Ann Sheridan, Pat O'Brien, Burgess Meredith, Henry O'Neill, Jerome Cowan, Guinn 'Big Boy' Williams, John Litel, and Barbara Pepper NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that until we were consigned this window card, we did not know that this movie was re-released prior to 1949 (when Warner Bros. did a full scale re-release). But this card is clearly from the early 1940s, when some enterprising promoter took it around the country and showed it in a roadshow release, likely single showings in small towns. It has a completely different image and tagline from any poster on this movie we have ever auctioned! Note that the window card was folded across the center at one time. Because the foldline is not exactly across the center of the card, we don't want to re-fold the window card prior to mailing, because it would not fit in one of our standard mailers, and we believe that re-folding the window card would lessen its condition (we never roll window cards into a tube). If you specifically request it, we will re-fold this window card, but you will not be able to return it. Condition: fair to good. The card was folded slightly below center, and there are many creases and some tiny surface paper loss on that fold, and some stains in Garfield's image and around it at top right.
