An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) They Drive By Night (released in England as "The Road to Frisco"), the 1940 Raoul Walsh trucker romantic love triangle action melodrama ("No picture in 1940 will have bigger thrills!"; "From a Novel by A.I. Bezzerides"; about truckers and their love lives; it stole part of its plot from "Bordertown"!) starring George Raft, Ann Sheridan, Ida Lupino, Humphrey Bogart, Alan Hale Sr., Gale Page, Roscoe Karns, John Litel, Charles Halton, Charles C. Wilson, George Tobias, and Henry O'Neill. Note that movies rarely have top stars in all four lead roles (other than MGM movies of the 1930s and early 1940s, because they had so many such stars that they could afford to do this), but this movie is kind of a rare exception. We say "kind of" because Humphrey Bogart and Ida Lupino were not yet top stars when they made this movie, but the very next movie they made was "High Sierra", which did help elevate both of them to greater stardom! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster does not come up for auction very often. This is the third example of this poster we have auctioned in all our years of auctioning. This is probably because the movie not only received a quick re-release in 1948, but it received a quick second re-release in 1956, which likely used up whatever was left of the original movie paper. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at the bottom crossfold and tiny paper loss at the other two crossfolds, with minor wear on the folds. It had pinholes in the corners, with small tears and paper loss in the corners, caused by rough removal of the pins. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
