As of 2019, it was the fifth-largest defense contractor in the United States, and the sixth-largest in the world, by sales. Formed in 1954 with the merger of submarine manufacturer Electric Boat and aircraft manufacturer Canadair, it evolved through multiple mergers and divestitures and changed markedly in the post-Cold War era of defense consolidation. Also, note that this poster was one of several designed by Erik Nitsche for General Dynamics. The first series was created for the 1955 First International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy in Geneva, and featured the tagline "Atoms For Peace" in various languages across the top of each poster. Further posters were created in 1956, and again in 1957 and 1958 for the Second International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy. What IS linenbacking?
