An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The New Frontier, the 1935 Carl Pierson Oklahoma pioneer cowboy western (from the story by Robert Emmett Tansey; about a man and his son who lead settlers to Oklahoma in the 1880s, when the government gave free land to settlers, and the man becomes sheriff of a town while his son is bringing in more settlers, and when the son returns, he discovers his father has been killed by outlaws, and he becomes the new sheriff, and he manages to tame the town by making an alliance with a different group of outlaws, who help him!) starring John Wayne, Muriel Evans, Warner P. Richmond, Al Bridge, Sam Flint, Murdock MacQuarrie, and Allan Cavan. Note that John Wayne appeared in a movie called "The New Frontier" in 1939, but that was a Three Mesquiteers movie, and it has no connection to this movie, other than the title. Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned eight scene lobby cards from this early John Wayne Republic movie, but we have NEVER before auctioned this title card (first release lobby cards from this early John Wayne Republic movie are incredibly rare)! Note that this card has been "gel backed". What does that mean? It means that a talented restorer backed the card onto a gel material, and they then performed restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, and afterward the card still looks and feels like an original card (and it is!), with no backing at all. Many collectors prefer this method of restoration to paperbacking or linenbacking, because with those methods the card no longer looks like it was not backed. Gel backing can't be used with cards that have major paper loss or other major defects, but for the cards it can be used on, it is really an excellent method of restoration! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. What IS gelbacking? Learn More Condition: very good. The card had a 2" tear in the right of the top border that extended into the top of the "A" of "WAYNE". It had a pair of staple holes in the center of the top border. It had a pinhole in each corner. It had paper loss in the lower left border that very slightly extended into the edge of the image background. Overall, the card was in good to very good condition prior to restoration. A talented restorer performed excellent restoration to the above defects. There are two tears near the middle of the right border that are more noticeable than the other restoration, and it is possible that they occurred after the card was restored, but they are not very noticeable, and certainly, any restorer could slightly touch up that area if the new owner desired.
