An Undated (probably 1940s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (28" x 41") (Learn More) Slaves in Bondage, the 1937 Elmer Clifton bad girl prostitution sexploitation crime thriller ("Will social justice triumph?"; "Society Beauties by Day! Party Girls by Night!"; "See for the first time Uncensored Secrets of the Nation's Sinister Vice Scandals"; "Girls ensnared into lives of shame!"; "Tricked into Lives of Shame! See the astounding revelations that shook the nation"; "Facts! It tears away the curtain of mystery"; "Untold truths revealed for the First Time"; "Girls caught in wild unguarded moments, face disgrace and destruction in houses of bondage!"; "Positively for the Adults Only!"; "Social outcast branded 'Scarlet', who is to blame?"; "Can youth be protected against the demons of lust and desire?"; about a woman who is the madame at a notorious roadhouse house of prostitution, and how she ruins the lives of many innocent young girls, with the help of her physically abusive boss) starring Lona Andre, Donald Reed, Wheeler Oakman, William Royale, Edward Piele, Sr., Louise Small, Florence Dudley, and John Merton. Note that this movie was naturally incredibly popular in small towns across America at this time, and in the next few years. Clever promoters would take it into a small town or city and show it for a single weekend (sometimes late night or midnight shows), and they would plaster the town with one-sheets or window cards announcing the event. It is very difficult to note which posters are from the very first release in 1937, and which ones are from the roadshow releases in the years afterwards. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a one-sheet for a "roadshow" showing of this low budget sexploitation movie. Such movies would be shown around the country in small towns for years after the initial release. There is no way of knowing exactly when this poster was printed, but it would almost certainly date from the early 1940s at the latest. We have auctioned two different styles of roadshow one-sheets for this movie, and we don't know if they are from the same year or from different years. We have also auctioned yet a third style of one-sheet that has a much more traditional look to it, and we believe that that poster is surely from 1937, and that the posters like these are likely from after that, either in 1938 or 1939, or in the very early 1940s. Condition: good. many creases and tiny tears down the vertical foldline (partially repaired with tape from the back); extra creases above and below the horizontal foldlines; separation and small paper loss in the left of the bottom foldline; left blank border and top blank border are somewhat tattered Learn More about condition grades
