An Original 1955 (from the first release of this movie in Poland) Vintage Theatrical Folded Polish Movie Poster (23x33; measures 23" x 33 1/2" [58 x 85 cm]) (Learn More) Nigorie (released in France at the Cannes Film Festival in 1954 as "Destini di donne"; released in the U.S. in 1956 as "Stained Image" and in other English-speaking countries as "An Inlet of Muddy Water"), the 1953 Tadashi Imai Japanese compilation suffering women relationship melodrama (three stories about women in the Meiji era by Ichiyo Higuchi, and all are worthy of Chekov; in one, a woman who had an arranged marriage to a rich man goes back to his family because she can't bear to continue, but the family convinces her to return because they owe the man too much; in the second, a poor woman is a maid to a rich woman, and she asks the woman to give her money to pay off her stepfather's gambling debts, and the woman agrees, but then reneges on her promise on New Year's Eve, and the woman is tempted to steal what she was promised; in the third, a house of prostitution has a beautiful woman who a man is obsessed with, and he is ruining his family because of the obsession, and meanwhile, she has a rich client who she hopes will marry her) starring Akiko Tamura, Yatsuko Tan'ami, Yoshiko Kuga, Nobuo Nakamura, Chikage Awashima, and Haruko Sugimura. Note that this movie played at the Cannes Film Festival and was well received the world over when it was first shown, but it is almost completely forgotten today, except by major film buffs, which seems a shame! Artist: Wlodzimierz Zakrzewski Important Added Info: Note that we have never auctioned this striking Polish poster before, and we have never auctioned ANY movie paper from this movie before! Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good. The poster was folded across the middle. It has very minor wear on that fold and a tiny tear in the upper right border. It has a vertical mark below the woman's eye that could be a scuff mark, or it could be a printing defect, or it could be intentional, because it looks like a tear dripping from her eye, but we can't say, because we have never auctioned this poster before!
