An Original Vintage Folded Italian One-Panel (known in Italy as a "2 Fogli") Poster (1p; measures 39" x 55" [99 x 140 cm]) (Learn More)

Duetto in Quattro (literally translates to "Duet in Four"), the 1914 Marcel Perez Italian comedy short starring Marcel Perez, Nilde Baracchi, Filippo Castamagna, and Ersilia Scalpellini. Note that Marcel Perez (also known as Marcel Frabre) was a Spanish actor and director who started his career as a clown in France. Arturo Ambrosio, owner of Ambrosio Films, hired him in 1910, and he created the comedy character "Robinet", and later directed many titles from that series. In 1915, Marcel left Italy and moved to the U.S. where he became known by his characters, Tweedle-Dum, Twede-Dan and Tweedy. Among his earliest American movies were a series of four Bungles comedies which co-starred Oliver Hardy. He passed away in 1929 at the age of 45.

Important Added Info: Note we have never before auctioned this poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this Italian movie, and which (typical of early 1910s movie posters) does not identify their top stars. It was not until the early 1910s that studios started giving their actors credit on their posters! Virtually no Italian posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II (mostly only pre-war heavy stock lobby cards, and even those are rare). Apparently there were many paper shortages in Italy during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters!

UPDATED 01/29/2024: Note that a knowledgeable collector identified the film that this poster is promoting and we have updated the auction accordingly.

Condition: fair to good. The poster is very fragile, with tears, darkening, and separation, with some paper loss in parts of the blank borders, and is in urgent need of expert professional restoration. But the poster is mostly "all there", and after linenbacking by a talented professional, the poster will look fantastic, and it will likely require little paint restoration within the image.
